1 Scope

1.1 These requirements cover pressure and safety relief valves and hydrostatic relief valves for anhydrous ammonia and liquefied petroleum gas (LP-Gas) for use on containers built in accordance with ASME Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 1 in nonrefrigerated systems in facilities covered by the following standards:

  • a) Requirements for the Storage and Handling of Anhydrous Ammonia, (ANSI K61.1), ANSI/CGA G-2.1.
  • b) Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code, NFPA 58.
  • c) Utility LP-Gas Plant Code, NFPA 59.

1.2 These requirements do not apply to relief valves for use on cylinders constructed in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) specifications.

Scope

1.1 These requirements cover safety valves and hydrostatic relief valves for anhydrous ammonia and liquefied petroleum gas (LP-Gas) for use in nonrefrigerated systems in facilities covered by the following standards:

1. Safety Requirements for the Storage and Handling of Anhydrous Ammonia, (ANSI K61.1-1989 ), ANSI/CGA G-2.1.

2. Standard for the Storage and Handling of Liquefied Petroleum Gases, NFPA 58-1995.

3. Standard for the Storage and Handling of Liquefied Petroleum Gases at Utility Gas Plants, NFPA 59-1995.

1.2 These requirements do not apply to safety and relief valves for use on cylinders constructed in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) specifications.

1.3 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this standard, and that involves a risk of fire or of electric shock or injury to persons shall be evaluated using appropriate additional component and end-product requirements to maintain the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this standard. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this standard does not comply with this standard. Revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development, revision, and implementation of this standard.
