1.1 These requirements cover wire binding screw terminals of receptacles and switches rated 15 or 20 A intended for use with solid conductor aluminum building wire, and that require direct connection of wiring conductor(s) to the binding head screw terminal(s) prior to insertion of the device in an outlet box.

1.2 These performance requirements for wire binding screw terminals are in addition to the requirements for the products covered by the Standard for Attachment Plugs and Receptacles, UL 498, and the Standard for General-Use Snap Switches, UL 20.

STANDARD FOR SAFETY FOR RECEPTACLES AND SWITCHES INTENDED FOR USE WITH ALUMINUM WIRE

Scope

These requirements cover wire binding screw terminals of receptacles and switches rated 15 or 20 A intended for use with solid conductor aluminum building wire, and that require direct connection of wirin g conductor(s) to the binding head screw terminal(s) prior to insertion of the device in an outlet box.

These performance requirements for wire binding screw terminals are in addition to the requirements for the products covered by the S tandard for Attachment Plugs and Receptacles, UL 498, and the Standard for General-Use Snap Switches, UL 20.

A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those in use when the Standard was developed, and that involves a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to maintain the level of safety for the user of the product as originally anticipated by the intent of this Standard.
